The Young REP
The Young REP is The REP’s youth theatre company, working with young people aged 7–25 across Birmingham and the West Midlands. Young people work with professional theatre makers to create and produce a broad range of high quality theatrical experiences.
Groups meet every Saturday at The REP, the cost per term is £55.

How to Join
All of our Young REP groups are full at the moment and new spaces are allocated on a first come first served basis. To be added to our database you will need to send us an expression of interest form which can be downloaded by clicking the link on the left hands side of this page.

Complete and return (post or email) the form and you will be notified by email when spaces become available and will also receive invitations to one-off workshops and summer schools.

Young REP on Saturdays

Young REP Juniors
These groups are for children in school years 3, 4, 5 and 6 and aims to build on the young people’s interest in drama and theatre to further develop their skills. Juniors meet between 10.00 and 11.30 every Saturday in term time. Past productions have included Christopher William Hill’s Ittullkyllyooiffyoodoo , The Day The Stories Went & Douglas Maxwell’s PROM.

This year Young REP Juniors will be performing the world premiere of Grace Barrington’s The New Kid at the start of June.

Young REP Intermediates
Our two intermediate companies are for young people in years 7 to 9 and aim to enhance their skill base to the next level. Intermediates meet at 12:00pm. Past productions have included Anthony Clark’s adaptation of The Red Balloon and devised show PANIC!!!.

This year Young REP Intermediates will be performing the world premiere of Grace Barrington’s The New Kid at the start of June.

Young REP Seniors
We have two companies for young people in years 10 to 13 whose focus is on gaining professional experience as well as performing new plays and updated classics. Seniors meet at 14.30. Past productions have included Evan Placey’s Girls Like That, Matthew Bond and Ian Farnell’s Pies Tomorrow and Bryony Lavery’s More Light.

This year our Young REP Senior Companies will be performing in devised show Anger Management and Lucinda Coxon’s What Are They Like? as part of The National Theatre’s Connections 500.

Young REP 18 – 25 Company
This company is for young adults who have a strong interest in and commitment to theatre. Young REP 18–25 Company work on a series of projects throughout the academic year and have just started work on Walking Shadows to be performed 30 January 2016. Past productions include a new take on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Amid Some Nights (A Dream) and Hamlets – which was performed across 9 floors of the new Library Of Birmingham at night.

Young REP Satellite Groups
The Young REP is partnered with a number of schools/organisations to run extra-curricular youth theatre groups across the region. Students develop drama skills and collaborate to produce devised productions that they perform at The REP.

This year all of our Satellite groups are working towards a production called Made in the Midlands which will run 23 – 24 March 2016 in The DOOR. If you attend one of our partnered schools and would like to join your Young REP satellite group, contact your drama teacher to find out more.

Previous performances by our Satellite groups include Ask A Fish to Climb a Tree, Decadence, I’m School Kid Get Me Out Of Here, Baghdad Zoo and Dark Age.

The Young REP @ Shenley Academy
Based in Northfield on Tuesdays during term time. Note: This group is only for students of Shenley Academy.

The Young REP @ Rockwood Academy
Based in Alum Rock on Tuesdays for students of Rockwood Academy. These sessions take place on Tuesdays after school.

The Young REP @ Small Heath School
Based in Small Heath on Tuesdays during term time. Note: This group is only for students of Small Heath School.

The Young REP @ Birches Green Junior School
Based in Erdington on Wednesdays in term time for pupils from Birches Green Infant School. This group is generously supported by the JABBS Foundation.

The Young REP @ Mayfield School
A group for learning disabled students from Mayfield School in Lozells on Wednesdays after school.

The Young REP @ Waverley School
Based in Bordesley Green on Thursdays for students from Waverley School.

The Young REP in Handsworth
This group is for pupils from Grove School and Lozells Primary School and meets on Fridays in term time. This group is generously supported by the JABBS Foundation.
