West Midlands well represented in this year's Norman Beaton
The winners of this year’s Norman Beaton Fellowship have been decided and we’re delighted to announce that both the winner, Sarah Thom and runner up, John Flitcroft are West Midlands performers who were put forward by Birmingham Repertory Theatre!
Organised by BBC Radio Drama, the aim of the Norman Beaton Fellowship is to broaden the range of actors available to radio drama producers across the UK by encouraging applicants from non-traditional training backgrounds. The applicants were put forward by nine theatre companies from around the: Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Bristol Theatre, Citizens Theatre Glasgow, Freedom Studios Bradford, Graeae Theatre Company, Kabosh Belfast, Tamasha, Theatre Royal Stratford East and of course The REP’s own casting co-ordinator, Alison Solomon.
Sarah fought off stiff competition from many other performers to win the fellowship and will now join the Radio Drama Company on Saturday 21st July 2012. Sarah, who grew up in Stourbridge, first worked with The REP as a teenager as part of the Birmingham Rep Youth Workshop and is thrilled to have won the Norman Beaton Fellowship via her home theatre.
Congratulations to both Sarah and John. Be sure to listen out for them both on BBC Radio drama over the coming year!
