Toy Theatre Festival Takes Off!
Last week at The REP, five Birmingham Primary Schools joined us in The Door to take part in our Toy Theatre Festival.
This theatre education project involved Key Stage 2 classes from schools across the city. Pupils from each school had been working with The REP’s Playwriting Officer since September 2009 – May 2010 to write short plays in classroom workshops and have created their own toy theatres to perform them in.
Two plays from each class were performed to other schools at as part of a four day long festival. On each day of the festival, one of the plays was also chosen to be rehearsed and performed to the pupils and their teachers by professional actors in a life sized toy theatre in The Door.
The Toy Theatres project is part of Spark, Provident Financial’s flagship community programme created to provide opportunities for schoolchildren to learn and develop through the arts.
