Birmingham Repertory Theatre Announces Opportunities For Writers
Sixteen established playwrights and new writers are to be offered unique opportunities to work with The REP over the forthcoming year.
The commissioning and development of new plays has been an important part of The REP’s work since 1998, with schemes such as the Attachment programme for playwrights and the Transmissions project for young writers. These programmes have provided hundreds of writers at different stages in their careers the resources and mentoring to develop their work.
In the past this work has been limited to The Door studio theatre. Now, the writing opportunities are expanding to fully reflect all of the theatre’s work with two programmes; the Attachment programme (for any age) and the Grass Routes programme for 18-30 year olds.
The Attachment programme will expand to include: writing for larger stages, site-specific work, children and youth theatre, writing collaboratively, across disciplines, community plays, adaptations, to a brief, for new media and also for writer performers.
The Grass Routes programme is specifically for 18-30 year olds who are interested in writing for live performance.
Closing date for applications is 1 July 2009.
