Birmingham-based female performers wanted for site-specific show

Following a successful run in London and Edinburgh, Mem Morrison Company and The REP are looking for up to thirty female volunteers to perform in their current production, Ringside. This opportunity is open to all women over the age of 18 who wish to be involved in a site-specific performance led by one of the UK’s leading live artists.

Using the celebration and rituals of remembered wedding receptions as its foundation, Ringside explores issues surrounding autobiography, identity, sexuality, memory, culture and self-censorship. Female performers will play the roles of potential wives and wedding guests, and will be a vital element to the overall experience for the audience.

Rehearsals will take place from 6 to 13 January at Birmingham Repertory Theatre
(mostly evenings) and the performances of Ringside will take place at 7.45pm on 14 and 15 January 2010 at Town Hall, Birmingham. There will be an afternoon dress rehearsal on 14January and performers will be required at least an hour before the show on 15 January to warm up and get into costume.

Mem Morrison is a performance artist, director and writer who has been making his own highly personal work since 1995. He is interested in exploring the notion of autobiography and how this can be challenged in terms of personal history, galleries and site-specific presentation. The work varies in scale from solo pieces, to collaborations with sound artists, filmmakers, musicians and community groups.

If you are interested in being part of this exciting production, gaining valuable performance experience and collaborating with a team of professional creatives, please contact Clare Lovell at The REP either by phoning 0121 245 2045 or emailing by
December 4. There will be a preliminary meeting with Mem at The REP on 5 December from 11am – 1pm for you to find out more about the show and ask any questions.

Please RSVP to attend.

*Please note that this is a voluntary opportunity. Mem Morrison Company is able to provide participants with refreshments during rehearsals but other costs, such as travel, sadly, cannot be reimbursed.
