Josie Lawrence Celebrates Her Memories Of The REP
Birmingham born actress Josie Lawrence made a special appearance at Birmingham Repertory Theatre on Friday (14 May 2010) to help launch The REP’s Memories Campaign.
We’re asking performers and members of the public to share their memories as part of an exhibition celebrating the past, present and future of the theatre and Josie, who made her debut at The REP in The Alchemist back in 1996, talked about her recollections of the theatre both as an actress and as an audience member.
Josie will return to Birmingham in October, taking the lead role in The REP’s production of The Cherry Orchard, which is directed by The REP’s Artistic Director Rachel Kavanaugh and forms part of the recently announced autumn and winter season.
The REP Memories Campaign will support the theatre’s REPair appeal for funds to cover repairs to our building in Centenary Square. The exhibition will be on display at The REP from September this year and throughout the remainder of the autumn and winter season.
“I’ve lots of different, wonderful memories all connected with The REP as I consider it my local professional theatre. As a kid I’d come to see lots of shows but my first professional show here was The Alchemist with Simon Callow and Tim Piggot-Smith. I think I wore my favourite wig in that show too!
“But a very, very special memory was opening with Frozen, the new play by Bryony Lavery, because that was such an important piece and it was done here first so I was very proud to be part of that.
“And I also love working here because everybody backstage talks like me so it’s always a pleasure to come back!”
You can add your memories on the REP Memories page.
