Charity Costume Giveaway

The REP’s Fairy Goody has been very busy lately – not just spinning the cloth for Sleeping Beauty new dress, but also helping us to donate some of the theatre’s costumes!

Cast from the Christmas production of Sleeping Beauty met with representatives from Birmingham based charity SIFA Fireside and Trident Reach The People Charity to pass on a huge bag of fashion goodies.

Keen Christmas shoppers will be given the rare opportunity to snap up a theatrical bargain as The REP’s donations will be sold at the Forgotten Vintage store in Birmingham’s Great Western Arcade.

The Forgotten Vintage store is jointly funded and supported by Trident Reach the People Charity and SIFA Fireside, both of which support homeless people in Birmingham. All proceeds will be split between the two charities and will be invested back in the city’s work to tackle homelessness. Forgotten Vintage will eventually offer volunteer and training opportunities to individuals affected by homelessness and act as a platform into further training and employment.

The REP has created thousands of costumes over the years and the selection donated to Forgotten Vintage include a wedding dress and also the leather trousers worn by the evil dentist in the 2010 production of Little Shop Of Horrors!

The REP’s Communications & PR Manager Clare Jepson-Homer said:

“We’re thrilled that some of our costumes will be going to good homes and that all proceeds will go toward such a good cause. The cast of Sleeping Beauty were very happy to help present the huge bundle of costumes to the guys from Forgotten Vintage.

“Our donations will definitely appeal to anyone looking for something quirky and unique to wear and what makes them even more interesting is the theatrical history each item has. If you look carefully at the labels, you may even see the name of the actor who wore them.”

Roger Browning; a trustee on the Board of SIFA Fireside said:

“We were extremely excited to launch Forgotten Vintage and hope it will be the start of many happy shopping years to come for Birmingham residents. We are delighted to accept the donation of clothes from The REP and wish to thank them for their kind donation. We are also appealing to other local companies to donate clothes. If any company wishes to do so they need to contact our Development Manager Simon Hackett on 0121 766 1700 or email

Forgotten Vintage is open seven days a week until May 2012 we will be selling a fantastic array of unisex vintage clothing, with proceeds going towards the charity SIFA Fireside.”
