Cast Announced For Calixto Bieito's Forests
Hayley Carmichael, George Costigan, Christopher Simpson and Katy Stephens plus leading Catalan actors Josep Maria Pou, Roser Cami and singer Maika Makovski have been cast in Calixto Bieito’s Forests , which opens at the Old Rep Theatre, Birmingham from 31 August to 15 September.
George Costigan’s stage credits include Blackbird and Death of a Salesman at York Theatre Royal, Waiting for Godot at the Library Theatre Manchester and Hamlet and Of Mice and Men at Birmingham Repertory Theatre. On film, he has appeared in Calendar Girls, Hereafter and Rita, Sue and Bob Too .
As a member of the RSC Ensemble from 2009 to 2011, Katy Stephens appeared in productions of As You Like It , The Grain Store , King Lear and Antony and Cleopatra. She also played all of the major female roles in the Histories Cycles, for which she was awarded the What’s On Stage award for Best Actress in a Play for her portrayal of Joan of Arc, along with the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Ensemble Performance and the Evening Standard Editor’s Award. Most recently Katy appeared in The Father at the Belgrade, Coventry.
Hayley Carmichael most recently appeared in Hamlet and Sweet Nothings at the Young Vic and Bliss at the Royal Court. As co-founder of Told By An Idiot she has both devised and performed in almost all their productions including the lead in Casanova at West Yorkshire Playhouse. She won the TMA and Time Out awards for Best Actress in 1999 for her performances in Weep At My Piano , Mr Puntila and his Man Matti and The Dispute .
Christopher Simpson ‘s recent theatre work includes Leaner Faster Stronger at Sheffield Crucible and the double-bill of School Plays: The Knowledge and Little Platoons , at The Bush Theatre. Screen credits include the TV adaptation of Zadie Smith’s novel White Teeth ; Sarah Gavron’s film adaptation of Monica Ali’s best-selling novel, Brick Lane and Michael Winterbottom’s Code 46 .
Completing the cast are Catalan actors, Josep Maria Pou, whose many impressive and award-winning credits include King Lear , The Goat or Who is Sylvia? and The Seagull , and Roser Cami who played Lady Macbeth in Bieito’s Macbeth at the Barbican.
