Birmingham talent recognised at Norman Beaton Fellowship

Birmingham Repertory Theatre’s Casting Co-ordinator Alison Solomon recently took part in the 2011 Norman Beaton Fellowship. Organised by BBC Radio Drama, the aim of the Norman Beaton Fellowship is to broaden the range of actors available to radio drama producers across the UK by encouraging applicants from non-traditional training backgrounds.

The REP was one of nine theatre companies to have been invited to work with BBC Radio Drama for this year’s Norman Beaton Fellowship. After an audition workshop held in the theatre’s rehearsal room, The REP in collaboration with Peter Wild of BBC Birmingham’s Radio Drama unit nominated local actress Amaka Okafor. Amaka fought off tough competition to become one of two runners up out of over 600 actors selected nationwide.

Congratulations to Amaka who now has a commitment from the BBC’s prestigious Radio Drama department in London to work with them this year.
